KIPP Atlanta Schools is part of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) national network of free, open enrollment, college preparatory schools dedicated to ensuring that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. There are 280 KIPP schools in 21 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 175,000 scholars and alumni. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates 11 schools including five primary schools, six middle schools and one high school, as well as KIPP Forward which supports scholars on their journey to a choice-filled life. Job Summary:
The Director of Health and Safety Services is responsible for the overall leadership and management of health services and safety services at KIPP Atlanta Schools and serves as the organization’s healthcare and school safety subject expert. Reporting to the Managing Director of Regional Operations, The Director of Health and Safety Services manages the Regional Health Manager and the Regional Safety Manager and leads any health-related or school safety responsibilities, policies, education and programs, and ensures that KIPP Atlanta Schools complies with any state or district requirements.
Job Responsibilities:Strategy Planning & Execution 40%
- Set, direct, and execute the health and safety strategy at KIPP Atlanta Schools to ensure that student health services are provided and that schools are safe
- Build effective systems and design processes to improve health outcomes for students and families and ensure that KIPP Atlanta Schools are safe by following and implementing recommended safety protocols and procedures
- Serve as the medical and safety expert and lead for KIPP Atlanta Schools and provides consultation to other school professionals while staying up to speed on current healthcare and school safety news and information
Team Leadership & Management 30%
- Lead the Regional Health and Safety Managers by building capacity through comprehensive development including the establishment of performance goals, regular check-ins, observations, timely feedback and professional development opportunities
- Regularly lead team meetings to ensure the effective cascade of communication, identifying areas of challenge and coordinating necessary changes in response to organizational challenges
- Hold the broader Health and Safety team accountable to performance goals and metrics identified through organizational planning and as part of their day-to-day duties
- Negotiate agreements and manage relationships and contracts with health services and safety vendors, consultants and suppliers
Health Services Administration 10%
- Develop regional and school processes and procedures for health and wellness needs and requirements
- Provide skilled nursing care and first aid to students, and staff and identify, monitor and support students with chronic disease and disabilities, documenting services provided in accordance with orders and care plan
- Promotes health and wellness and provides health education to students and staff
Safety Services Administration 10%
- Ensures school compliance with federal, state and local school district guidelines and requirements regarding student, staff and family safety
- Ensures training is completed by all stakeholders, including but not limited to the development, design and implementation of the training
Compliance 10%
- Ensure that schools and departments collaborate on budgeting process and adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, and partner with the Finance Team to ensure the budget for each assigned department is managed effectively
- Support with organizational crisis management
- Ensures all compliance requirements for state, local, and federal reporting are complete
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation for this role is between $85,000 and $95,000. The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, and certifications. KIPP Atlanta Schools offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

Location & Work Conditions:
This position requires candidates to be based in Atlanta and regularly be in schools and able to attend in person meetings and events. Additional in person time may be necessary based upon organizational needs.
